Kali's Birth Story

Thursday July 2nd Brennen and I went to the Dr just for a regular weekly check up that morning, I was 36 weeks and 5 days not thinking anything was gonna happen just going in for a check up and leaving like every other Dr appointment. The past couple of times I had gone to the Dr my blood pressure had been higher than normal and my platelet count (something in your blood) kept decreasing each time they were taking my blood, once it gets to a certain number you cannot get an epidural. Since my blood pressure had kept going up and down the Dr wanted us to go over to labor and delivery to get hooked up to some monitors for a couple of hours just to make sure Kali and I were okay. We still didn't think we would be having our little girl soon just thought they would be keeping an eye on my blood pressure and then we would be free to go home. After being monitored for an hour or so my Dr came in and said since my platelet count kept decreasing so much each time they took my blood if I were to carry full term I wouldn't be able to get an epidural on top of having high blood pressure they didn't want to risk anything. We were so surprised that we were going to have little Kali so soon but also nervous! We started texting and calling for our family to bring our hospital bags. luckily I already had mine and Kali's bag packed!

Later that evening my Dr gave me a cervidil to help soften my cervix before starting me on pitocin. I had it all through the night with mild contractions.. that was fun. I was able to get morphine but once that wore off I got sick. It was a long night for sure. That morning I was able to get up and shower before they started me on pitocin. I had already dilated to 1cm on my own and the cervidil helped me dilate to 2cm. Around 6am they started me on pitocin I had that for 4 hours and slept through everything. My Dr came in at 9am and said you shouldn't be sleeping right now you should be having contractions so she broke my water and about 10 minutes after that I was having terrible contractions.. terrible I wish I could explain what they are like but there are no words. My Dr wanted me to be 4cm before I got my epidural.. that was the longest 4 hours ever that I had to wait. I honestly don't even remember getting my epidural because I was in so much pain and trying to stay still and breathe through contractions was pretty difficult. After I got my epidural I maybe had it for 10 minutes and had all of this pressure TMI I thought I was going to poop Kali out. HAHA I told my nurse she checked me and I was already at 8cm so really I don't think I got the epidural until I was probably 6cm. She went out to get the Dr and by the time they got back I was already dilated to 10cm. So I maybe had the epidural for 20 minutes before I started pushing.. I pushed for an hour and a half and felt everything, the epidural helped calm my contractions but other then that it was like I didn't even have one. Our little Kali Evelyn arrived Friday July 3rd at 2:55pm weighing 6lbs 14ounces 20inches long. Our lives were forever changed!

We were so happy when we were able to leave the hospital. We have now been home for a week and we are still so amazed that she is actually here! We love every moment with her even when she does pee or poop on us and when we are up every 2-3 hours feeding her she is worth it all!
